About me.

Vanessa, also known as Bittersvveetheart, is an Indonesian based artist specialing in traditional mediums, particularly graphite, gouache, and ink. Her work often depicts warped realities, exploring themes of young adulthood, mental health, femininity, love, and the bittersweetness of life. 

From childhood, Vanessa’s artistic journey was a slow but steady transformation. It wasn’t until moving overseas for higher education that she began to fully explore and built a business around her art. Through sharing her art candidly on social media, her drawings have been exhibited in both independent zines and established galleries, mainly in Singapore and Melbourne. 

Whilst drawing on paper, Vanessa simultaneously pursued the ancient yet contemporary craft of tattooing, and is currently a resident artist at a cozy private studio in Jakarta. She hopes to return to the gallery one day, but a main philosophy that Vanessa carries as an artist is to never limit her self-expression. 

Beyond her career, Vanessa preoccupies herself with a variety of activities, one of them being her family business. However, she always tries to make time for self-care, and cherishing the moments with her long-term friends. 

Hopefully, my art can make people be more open and honest with themselves.

To quote Sylvia Plath, “I took a deep breath and listened to the old brag of my heart. I am, I am, I am.”
